Welcome

The Club was first mentioned as the Uxbridge & District Constitutional Club in 1881, when it occupied premises above the Market House. There is much confusion as to how long the Club stayed there under that name, since we have in our file records of Uxbridge

Conservative Club being in premises at 2, Lawn Road, Uxbridge, also the premises of Uxbridge Conservative Provident Society. A handbill advertises a Smoking Concert to be held at that address on the 14th of November 1898.

In February 1947 the Club changed its name to Uxbridge Conservative Club. It was still above the Market House at this time, but in December 1953 members voted to purchase “Fairfield”.

As the then Chairman put it, “After 60 years in premises which could never be our own..”  It is difficult to square this with still being in Lawn Road in 1898, only 55 years before. Following the EGM vote to purchase “Fairfield” for £ 5,000 in December 1953, the transaction was completed in February 1954.
The new Club was officially opened on April 2nd1954 by Lord Vansittart of Denham Place.

Presumably due to moving, Club records are disappointingly few. At present we hold Membership rolls from 1950 – 1961 and 1970-1982.

Minutes of Committee Meetings for 1885 – December 1901 and February 1950 – October 1960 are also available, as is a Complaints book covering the period 1897-1925. It is interesting to note that the reasons for complaints about Members’ behaviour have changed very little in the intervening years!

The following Members of Parliament have represented Uxbridge in recent years.
